I was doing some “Jewish website web-surfing” and came across an article on Yeshiva World about a sheitle (wig) store being banned for putting up pictures of women. Lets clarify: Pictures of women from the neck up, wearing sheitles. This happened in Brooklyn across from the Yeshivas Chaim Berlin.I can’t believe our world has come to this. Once again, chumras (stringencies) are being imposed on people, and Rabbinic politics are going to put someone out of business unless he complies with unreasonable close-mindedness.You can also get some great ranting on a new blog, Frum Satire.

    So I just went to the blog and read the post and most of the comments. What I found most upsetting were two things that had nothing to do with the pictures at all. 1) the letter was a poor translation of what the Rosh Yeshiva actually said. Therefore….who knows what he really said? 2) Did you see the comments? If anyone asked anything like “what did the pictures look like” they were bombarded with “Do you question the Rav?!” One person was told to be quiet and not start trubble. Another asked “is the problem more the pictures or its proximity to the Yeshiva?” and again bombarded with “how dare you ask questions”. I have a much bigger issue with the people who get mad at those who ask lagit questions. Maybe the questions would have been answered if the actual text of the letter was posted and not someones translation of it.

    I recently came across an article about ultra frum women in Israel who have started wearing burkas as a form of modesty. Basically never underestimate the ability for someone to take a religious concept to its ridiculous extreme

    Burkas are hot!!! But seriously, if Chariedi women wear burkas, and they get on a bus in Israel, how do we know if that the next person who gets on the bus wearing a burka doesn’t have a bomb strapped to them?
