Taking a New Direction

July 26, 2009 2 Comments »

For the past few years it has been my pleasure managing Jewneric from behind the scenes, I have decided to embark on a more journalistic approach to the Modern Jewish question. For those of you who know me personally, you know that I am a serial social entrepreneur. I am constantly embarking on new ventures which usually center around social conscious projects, like ParnasaFest and Not Now Not Ever.

ParnasaFest is an international grassroots effort to provide networking and job assistance opportunities for the Jewish people and the greater community at large. ParnasaFest helps people network. By doing this, job seekers can get connected with employment opportunities and employers can get connected with candidates event draw together.

I created ParnasaFest in February 2009 to help some of my friends who had recently lost their jobs. So far we have helped thousands in this effort. This important work still continues.

Not Now Not Ever helped to raise awareness of the Genocide in Darfur. I created this student based organization while still in college just before gradating in 2005. After our first successful event drew nearly 1500 people together in New York’s Central Park, the first large scale event ever for the Darfur cause, I began working closely with activist around the world. Our weekly conference calls eventually gave way to the now famous Safe Darfur Coalition.

What I hope to accomplish in the following columns are stories of other ventures and individuals working towards similar goals. Who will be our leaders of tomorrow? Do popular voting systems and “Jewish Idol” engagement models work? How will we engage our community as the boomer generation retires and X,Y and eventually Z step up to the plate? What projects and models will be successful and why?

Feel free to submit to me your project, idea or personality to be reviewed.

    Joel,

    You caught me mid-post :)

What lies ahead for me, as always, is unclear, but I will continue our efforts on Jewneric, my work with ParnasaFest and I am sure embark on new territory as opportunities open in front of me.

    Thanks for reading!
