Why did you initially join Twitter?

I initially joined Twitter in October 2008 because my best friend, a techie, wouldn’t stop talking about it.

How did you get involved with the Jewish community on Twitter?

After spending the first few months barely using the account, I began to use it for political stuff (which became my job!)

How has Twitter’s Jewish community changed your life?

I’ve met amazing people and expanded my Jewish social network incredibly. I even spent last Shabbat at @hsabomilner‘s house with her husband – I never would have known them without Twitter!

What are the most interesting Jewish conversations taking place in your Twitter feed?

I like the crowd-sourcing aspect of the Jewish Twitter community – that you can ask about a hechsher or a restaurant or davening times, and instantly get a lot of opinions. I dislike when people try to have halachic discussions on Twitter – they are impossible to have and follow in 140 characters, especially when tagging the 30 people that end up chiming in.

Who are your favorite Jewish tweeters?

I love the Kosher foodie community – I even made a list of the best of the best: https://twitter.com/#!/bethanyshondark/kosher-foodies

What’s the most interesting or out-of-the-box way you have used Twitter?

I love crowd sourcing opinions on hechshers; I’m surprised at how often people agree.

Now if only Bethany weren’t so frequently cruel & intolerant of other Jews’ beliefs in so many of her tweets…
