An Olah Without A Parachute: An Aliyah Adventure i
Phew! Coming up with a title for a column is hard work. So many I mulled over, brainstormed and massaged and I still landed with the original one. You’re probably wondering about other front-runners. Well, there was “shifting into D4″ (too ambiguous) or “Just following orders” (too WWII) and then there was my favorite which demands more explanation and therefore - the next paragraph.
I wanted to call this column ‘The Story of a Statistic.’ While slightly derogatory, okay very derogatory, I feel it important to stress that I don’t feel extra special making this move to Israel. I feel that it is a rite of passage that I have to take, like many who came before me and many who will after me. This column is not here to judge anyone who has a different journey and this is not a column to postulate or pontificate the best way to go about making aliyah. This is just a column to share and perhaps provide some entertainment about my aliyah adventure.
And I think that’s how I have to look at it - as an adventure. So, here goes my jump from a precipice of familiarity: Welcome to an Olah without a parachute.

Oh, and if you have a better idea for a title, let me know.. I’m always open to suggestions.

I’m excited to see where you take this column, Eliana. Congrats on your decision to make Aliyah and your strength for making your efforts public. Hopefully this will inspire others and open some minds!

you know that they will actually LAND the plan on the ground, and provide steps. You dont actually need a parachute. Though in the event of a water landing, your seat cushion can be used as a flotation device.

Wow!!! you are a brave soul. i admire you!!!! cant wait for more postings! i know you’ll land safely even without the parachute
