Waltz with Bashir: A non-review
A challenge is to talk about a movie without divulging any information about said movie.
That is the problem with “Waltz with Bashir”, an animated movie I saw last night about the first Lebanon War.
I cannot morally speak about the movie. Any words I would say would ruin it for you. I just can say that [...]

Drink Wine. Israeli Wine.
Maybe it’s just me, but everywhere I turn in Jerusalem, I am sucked into a conversation about wine. People who know me professionally lament to me, asking “Why doesn’t Israel market itself through its wines?” My friends will either tell me about their favorite wine store (and physically take me there), or have a [...]

MashBash Tel Aviv - The Official Jewneric.com Report
MashBash TLV the Official Jewneric.com Media Partner Report
Last night, as previously reported, I had the pleasure of being a sponsored guest to MashBash TLV. For those who still don’t know what Mashable is, go to their website (Mashable.com). (Hint: it’s the Social Networking news source.) 800 people mingled for many hours, including a 3 hour [...]

Ethnocentricity “and the Jews”
Thomas L. Friedman wrote an inciteful (or insightful - I’m still trying to decide) article in the NYTImes on May 18th. In fact, over a day after being published it is still the most popular article emailed (but not blogged, go figure).
The title: Obama and the Jews.
In my estimation, he could have left out the [...]

Perks of Blogging for Jewneric
Jewneric treats its bloggers really really well. You should blog for them.
For instance, I received a beautiful trip to MashBash TLV (the first international MashMeet!). It is going to be full with all the movers and shakers of the Israeli tech scene, and Jewneric just happens to be a media partner!
So I get to go, [...]

The White Elephant in My Room: My Stutter
I stutter. But I am not a stutterer.
It does not define me; rather it complements me.
Through the course of history, individuals who stutter have entered into all realms of life. In a religious sense, Moses stuttered. Yet so did Marilyn Monroe. As did James Earl Jones (“This is AT&T”), Isaac Newton, Winston Churchill, and [...]

The Age of Apathy.
On Tuesday, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke in front of the Knesset (the Israeli Parliament). In the LA Times, the visit is described as “[stirring] traumatic memories. Six million Jews were slaughtered by the Nazis during World War II, and about 250,000 elderly survivors live in Israel.”
After beginning her speech in Hebrew (albeit heavily [...]

“Purgamentum Init, Exit Pecuniam,” or “Wow, Staten Island Can Now Rival an Oil-Rich Arab Country!”
Reading one of my new favorite blogs (greenprophet.com) has caused me to ponder: Can the country that created a veritable oasis out of a desert simultaneously solve waste issues, lower reliance on foreign fuel, and help finance an exclusive country club in Staten Island?
Apparently, some Israeli company (REN Waste) has devised a way to convert [...]

Terrorist Attack in Jerusalem
About an hour and a half ago, at 8:30 PM (Israel time), at least 2 terrorists entered Yeshivat Merkaz haRav and shot tens of students.
News reports are reporting between 6 and 8 dead, (plus the terrorists), as well as 6 evacuated, and another 20 35+ injured.
Merkaz haRav, located in Jerusalem, is the flagship yeshiva [...]

The Israeli “Limpieza de Sangre,” or, Are You Jewish Enough to Read This?
What is a Jew? And why does it matter?
The number one article emailed over the last day from the NY Times is a piece from the magazine entitled “How Do You Prove You’re a Jew?” written by Gershom Gorenberg.
Intrigued by the title, I read on. If you have not yet read this article, I highly [...]
