Skittles No Longer Kosher in Europe
After nearly a decade, Skittles are no longer under hashgacha (kosher supervision) in Europe. For years, you could travel, or at least stop over, at a European destination and buy Skittles (as long as they were made in Ireland or England). No more.
Growing up traditional, I ate the non-kosher Skittles, among other candies [...]

Put Everything in a Bowl and Mish Recipies: Banana Cake
This is the ABSOLUTELY MOST TERRIFIC BANANA CAKE recipe that is guaranteed to win a place on your favorites list. My family loves it for the taste and I love it because it is the simplest dessert to make. Just put all the ingredients in a big bowl [...]

About the Impending Israeli Sushi Strike and the Implications and Ramifications upon the Future of the Israeli Society
Strikes are inevitable. Certain things can be done without. (I am not, God forbid, referring to House, Scrubs, Desperate Housewives, Prison Break, Heroes, 30 Rock, or any other TV shows affected by the recently-ended WGA Writer’s Strike in the US. That was hell, and should not be experienced by anyone.)

The Six Degrees of Kosher Bacon
1) Smart Bacon: Made by Life Light, Smart Bacon is completely non-dairy, giving it the versatility to be used in both Meat and Dairy recipes. Though it is not bad, Smart Bacon is less like bacon and more like soy with bacon flavoring.
2) Organic Smoky Tempeh Strips: Also made by Life Light, Smokey Tempeh [...]

A rose by any other name: Tequila is tequila is tequila. No matter if it’s a [...]

Des Moines 2004 - My Kosher Presidential Election Caucus Experience
“Why don’t you come to Des Moines and help us win an election?”
There were so many reasons to say NO to going to Iowa to help campaign for someone I barely knew. Yet, when Congressman Dick Gephardt and his wife, Jane, made the above quick remark to the gathered crowd that cold November [...]

Those Old Time Lox and Rolls
Approaching the secular new year, I sit nostalgic of the Jewneric that was in the days of yore. Well, that’s not really true. I sit wondering why the only topics people can think to post are food related.
Let’s recap for those who are new here.
Jewneric began in August with posts [...]

The making of a modern day neurotic Jewish mother….
I have a secret that has been passed down from Jewish woman to Jewish woman since Sarah, and I am going to let it out here in the open right now. I am going to break the covenant…..don’t try and stop me….here it goes…
As soon as a Jewish woman has a child, a group of [...]

Delicious for Chanukah!
Looking for the perfect holiday snack? Need something more substantial to go along with your latkes and sufganiot? Why not Ham? At least, that’s what this clueless butcher thought was a good idea. Isn’t the caption perfect?
