Google Leaks State Secrets
Israel has a secret in the Negev. Well, not so much a secret but rather a rumor that the Israeli government has never taken the time to confirm or deny. If Israel were ever to officially confirm this rumor it would create a significant international incident involving the United Nations and dozens of regulatory committees. Rather then go though the tumult of making an international scene, Israel just chooses not to talk about their secret towel factory in Demona.
Why would Israel be keeping a towel factory cloak and dagger? It’s because the towel factory in question may or may not actually be a nuclear facility cleverly disguised as a towel factory. If Israel were to ever officially confirm the actual contents of this factory then the International Agency for Atomic Energy would be compelled to further investigate. Since Israel is not recognized by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty the IAAE would then be compelled to ask Israel to dismantle it’s, as of yet, unconfirmed nuclear arsenal. So Israel remains quiet allowing the world to speculate about their high security, soldier encrusted textile plant.
The reason for Israel to have a “maybe, perhaps, it’s possible” nuclear arsenal is pretty much best sumed up by French President Jacque Chirac when commenting on Iran’s nuclear development and possible first strike against Israel. “Where will it drop it, this bomb? On Israel? It would not have gone 200 meters into the atmosphere before Tehran would be razed.”
Then along came Google Earth. Thanks to Google we at home have the ability to plug coordinates into a computer and pull up a satellite image of almost every where on the globe. I have actually zeroed in on my house so close that I can actually see the Green Bay Packers sticker on the back window of my car. Of course, there are some places you can’t zoom in on like the White House or the Pentagon. Google has exhibited a great deal of caution making sure that sites that would be of terrorist interest are not able to be viewed with reconnaissance quality. Google however has not taken this precaution with Israel. If you plug Demona into Google Earth you can view in clear detail Israel’s secret “towel factory”.
To me it just appears to be a series of buildings, but then again I am not a UN Weapons Inspector. No matter what, the fact remains that Google has blabbed an international secret and needs to be more careful with what satelilite imagery they allow the general public to view.
The best thing to do is to remain vague on the subject. Maybe the security surrounding the towel factory is there to guard some ultra sensitive research on how to make super absorbent towels? Maybe the only reason Israel doesn’t deny the rumors is to harbor suspicion, there by discouraging nuclear terrorism? Maybe that picture of the ‘towel factory” isn’t even a picture of Israel at all?
