Hezbollah Issues Threat Against Israel

Hassan Nassrallah

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah issued a threat against Israel on Thursday. This threat comes amongst accusations of Israel’s involvement with the car bomb that killed Hezbollah Commander Imad Mughniyeh earlier this week.
Nasrallah, who has been in hiding since 2006 due to threats of assassination, spoke at Magniyah’s funeral via telecast. “You crossed the borders,” Nasrallah said. “Zionists, if you want an open war, let it be an open war anywhere.” In his speech, Nasrallah said that the death of Mugniyah would be avenged and that “The blood of Imad Mugniyah will eliminate them,” referring to the Israelis.
Iran’s close ties to Hezbollah and its leadership was emphasized as Iranian foreign minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, spoke at the funeral, giving an address that included a personal letter from President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Quoting the letter, Mottaki said, “These are operations that will shorten their corrupt and filthy life. Their smiles will not last long. The free people and the Lebanese people have lost one hero but there are a million more Hajj Rudwans [Mugniyah also was knows as Hajj Rudwans] ready to join the ranks of the resistance.”
Israel has denied involvement in the attack and has begun heightening security at its embassies around the world. As of yet, no one has claimed responsibility for Mugniyah’s death.
