Israel Prepares for Gaza Invasion
As Hamas attacks on Israeli cities continue, Israel has begun to consider a full scale invasion of Gaza. Defense Minister Ehud Barak said, “We should be prepared for an upswing in hostilities in Gaza. The big ground operation is a reality and it is tangible. We are not eager to embark upon such an operation, but we are not put off by it either.”
The purpose of such an operation would be not only to reduce both rocket fire and rocket manufacturing taking place in the Gaza Strip, but also to disrupt the Hamas government’s operations and attempt a regime change.
Hamas official Abu Obeida, when asked about the possible incursion, said, “We will never have equipment comparable to our enemy, but we are working all the time to have enough to make any aggression a regrettable adventure for the enemy.”
This news comes shortly after the southern city of Ashkelon, previously thought to be out of rocket range, suffered a barrage of attacks early on Thursday, as over 30 Qassam rockets were fired at southern Israel from Gaza.
Al Jazeera’s English website is already reporting on the Israeli threat to invade Gaza and has begun reporting casualties due to Israeli retaliation.
True to their anti-Israel roots, the BBC has also chosen to report on Israel’s retaliation against Gaza while omitting information about Hamas’s initial attacks. They then went on to condemn Israel’s actions.
While I usually stick strictly to news facts when reporting these incidents, I wish to briefly deviate from my standard MO and editorialize…..
IF HAMAS STOPS SHOOTING GODDAMN MISSILES AT ISRAELI CITIES, THERE WON’T BE ANY NEED FOR RETALIATION.
Condoleezza Rice met briefly with Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert and said the Hamas rocket attacks “need to stop.”

Nice to know that Condoleezza Rice has a sophisticated grasp of the situation.
