Jewneric: A New Platform for the Jewish Voice

My first post!

After urging Dave to restart this site back in August, I have been looking forward to posting my own thoughts. So far, as a reader, I have been impressed with the site. I look forward to a different person posting a different subject every time I visit.
One subject sorely lacking has been sports, and I consider myself somewhat of a sports buff (read: freak) and I want to post my two cents. The baseball playoffs began last week and have been somewhat of a disappointment. Why you ask? Not because the games aren’t exciting (they are) or there is a lack of drama (there is not). But because the first slate of games all fell on Yom Tov, so many religious Jews could not watch their teams. Whether you’re a Cubs fan (they lost all three games over Yom Tov, eliminating themselves from the postseason) or a Yankees fan (they got killed over Yom Tov, played well on Sunday) or the Red Sox (like myself), it is difficult not to be able to watch the games. I was nervous each morning as a ran to grab the sports section to see if the Sox won or not (they swept the Angels in three games). Not being able to watch or get constant updates either from friends or the internet has been stressful. Thankfully, the holidays are over and I can watch every Red Sox game from now till the World Series. Except this Friday night.
In closing, I offer my condolences to Cubs and Phillies fans, who couldn’t even support their teams as they got crushed by lesser known opponents. Sorry Angles fans, no remorse from me - you live in California, where it’s 78 degrees and sunny every day. Finally - go Indians, tonight against the Yankees.

Thanks for the condolences to the Cubs. As a fan I appreciate your sympathy and totally agree about how much it sucked to have to read about my teams agonizing defeat in the paper the next day.
