The ABC’s of Kosher Wine L-P: Celebrity Edition

Nothing is better than word-of-mouth advertising, especially when the words come from a mouth that has been gilded by fame and celebrity. Well, Jewneric’s ongoing series, “The ABC’s of Kosher Wine,” has managed to attract attention from some of Hollywood’s biggest names, who have asked to contribute their opinions to todays installment.

Louis de Sacy Brut Champagne
60% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Meunier. Louis de Sacy Grand Cru Champagne shows a beautiful golden pinkish color. Its fine bubbles spread out a complex, subtle and well balanced nose of red fruits, citrus, spices, herbs and toasted bread, offering a great deal of character and delicacy.

Director Roman Polanski says: “I really enjoy things that are bubbly and less than 16 years old, so this wine went well with my tastes.”

Monte Olivo Umbria Rose 2005
A light bodied blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, made by the famous Italian wine maker, Ricardo Cotarella, demonstrates floral aromas leading to crisp acidity and faint raspberry in the mouth. This outstanding fruity wine is the result of a cold fermentation of gracefully blended 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Well matched to honey-glazed tuna steaks, fruit platters and melons.

Sopranos Actor Pauly Gualtieri says: “My goomah really enjoys this wine and is always busting my stugots that I should bring a bottle home. I don’t mind her nagging because I think its just a great friggen wine. It’s not too fruity so no one will think I am fanook if they see me drinking it. Also the price is easy on the pocket book.”

Noah Tevel Shiraz-Cabernet 2005
The new Shiraz-Cabernet is 60% Shiraz and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, grown in the Bet Shemesh Valley in the Judean Hills. Hand harvested, grown in the Judean mountains and aged 12 months with oak staves. Look for notes of plums, black cherries and assorted berries on the palate. Enjoy with roasted meats, poultry or gourmet cheeses.

Jackass’s Steve-O says: “Medium to full bodied, with generous but soft tannins integrating nicely, making this wine bold but never precocious. The flavor is an appealing blackberry, raspberry with earthy-mineral aromas that…” (Authors Note: At this point in the interview Steve-O was bitten on the scrotum by one of the 2 dozen African Cave Dwelling Spiders that he had placed in his undergarments; after that he became unavailable for further comment.)

Porto Cordovero Ruby Port
This fine ruby port was blended from a selection of the finest wines produced in the upper Douro Valley from properties of Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman. Fully matured in wood, it is ready to drink immediately and requires no further aging in bottle.
