Hi, guys!

I am a so called second generation survivor. Both my parents have their miracle survival stories. I am born in the eastern Europe. I have lived under Soviet regime.

I am ashamed of lots of things happening in Israel:

1. There are Holocaust survivors in the jewish state having no money for medicines, food, clothes etc.
2. State of Israel has recently demanded from the Federal Republic of Germany to take care of the remaining survivors in Israel.
3. Having accepted the german reparations, having accepted german military aid, having started with Germany full scale diplomatic & economic relations etc. there are always some politicians trying to benefit from the Holocaust. Look at the names: they are all politicians that have for ages not been mentioned in media. They need a scandle.

I think Israel should have decided either we accept apology of Germany or not. But once we have accepted their aid and money, the decision has been made.

About the live in the USSR. Well, the USSR did not make difference between jews murdered in Holocaust and the rest of its murdered citizens. Official number of the Soviet WWII casulties was 20,000,000. Mostly military. Official History almost did not count the civilian casulties. Unofucially civil and milttary casulties were about 45,000,000. Huge number...

David,

Second Generation survivors, from what I understand, need to receive more psychological than monetary help. While it is real, it is a different need.

Even if they were young during the Holocaust/WWII, their world was still turned upside down. They were affected then by Stalinism, etc, in a very similar way. The Nazi regime affected them and their life more than anything else.

When I was in the Ukraine, and I spoke negatively about Communism I was shushed, because under Communism, everyone ate.

We can analyze from today until tomorrow (along with the MKs) what the reason is, but the result is that we have legions of poor people who have been forgotten, that deserve our help. They lived through hell, on either side of the battle.

Ezra,

You are absolutely right and I won't even touch upon this issue of Americans who identify themselves as 'second generation survivors' and how that arguably has been exploited by some.
Two points: a lot of these present-day survivors were quite young during the Holocaust and probably raised to see themselves as survivors of World War II-the Great Patriotic War in the USSR as opposed to Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Also the number of 'survivors' needing aid has grown immensely since the fall of the Soviet Union. I don't think the institutions that dealt with survivors were active in Communist nations but am not completely sure.
