The Peace Process Kills Again
Asked by a Channel 2 TV reporter what weapon the Palestinian Authority terrorist had, Dadon said, “A Kalishnakov,” and turning to the camera, he angrily added, “The Kalishnskov that you gave him, President Peres…” (Nissan Ratzlav-Katz, “Arab Terrorist Attacks Jerusalem’s Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva: 8 Dead,” Arutz 7, March 6, 2008, available at http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/125487)
The Torah records an interesting mitzvah (Jewish law) in Parshat Shoftim. If a dead body is found on the road between two cities and the identity and origin of the deceased is not known, the cities’ זקנים (Elders) have to perform a ceremony in which they make a declaration “ידינו לא שפכו את הדם הזה ועינינו לא ראו…” – “Our hands did not spill this blood, neither have our eyes seen it…” (Deuteronomy 21:7)
An obvious question asked by our classical commentators is: These were the Torah leaders of the Jewish community. They were upstanding citizens and paragons of Jewish moral virtue – does anyone suspect them of having murdered this unknown person and leaving his body to the elements?! Of course not. But they were the leaders of the community and the responsibility rested upon them to ensure this man’s safety. Therefore, they must make this declaration that they did not know of this man or the danger he was in, or surely they would have sent an escort to protect him!
Our leaders cannot make such a declaration today. They cannot say that they have no blood on their hands. There are two parties responsible whenever a Jew is killed by an Arab terrorist in Israel today: the Arab terrorist, and the Israeli government that enabled him to kill.
This Thursday, March 06, 2008, eight Jews were gunned down by a bloodthirsty Arab terrorist. Eight students at Yeshivat Merkaz HaRav were murdered by our “partners in peace” as thousands of their Arab brothers in Gaza celebrated and passed out candies in the streets, celebrations eerily reminiscent of their reaction to 9/11. Many other Jews were wounded in the attack (may they have a speedy recovery).
The weapon used by the Arab terrorist: a Kalishnakov rifle. This is the type of rifles handed over to the Palestinian Authority during the so-called “peace process,” the Oslo debacle that empowered the PLO (now the PA) by giving them mobility, legitimacy, and weapons. (http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/637).
The Oslo Syndrome runs deep within certain elements of the Israeli public. “If only we give them land and concessions, they will stop killing us,” is often the logic employed by the Left and even by some on the Right. We want peace so badly that we delude ourselves into thinking that if we give the Arabs a piece of the land that they claim as their own in its totality, they will leave us alone. The Arab’s national pride is not so easily bought, however.
We all know by now that Hamas, an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, calls for the murder of Jews and the complete annihilation of Israel in its charter. But how many are aware that Fatah, the so-called “moderate” organization of Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas), also calls for Israel’s violent destruction in its constitution?
But what about “the occupation,” you ask? Surely Israel is partly to blame for the “cycle of violence” because they took over the “Palestinians’” land. The PLO was founded in 1964, a full three years before the so-called “occupied territories” came under Israel’s control. In the 1920’s and the ’30’s when the Arabs rioted under the leadership of the Grand Mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini (a devotee of Adolf Hitler) and murdered over 500 Jews, when they entered Hebron in 1929 and murdered 67 Jews in cold blood (strangely reminiscent of today’s events), were they upset over the occupied territories of the 1967 Six Day War?
The answer is simple: No. They were upset over an occupation, though. They were upset that Jews were occupying the Jewish homeland – any part of it. Do not kid yourself. It is this same “occupation” that they are upset about today. They claim Haifa, Jaffa, and Jerusalem as their own – a sampling of their media makes this desire clear.
The “Disengagement” resulted in thousands of rockets raining down on Sderot and Ashkelon. Oslo resulted in the “2nd Intifada” terror war against Israel, which left thousands murdered and maimed. Fleeing Lebanon in 2000 resulted in the empowerment of Hezbollah and the 2nd Lebanon War.
When will Israel’s leaders learn that appeasement does not work?

MK Gideon Saar submitted an “urgent query” to the Knesset as to where the terrorist who perpetrated the Merkaz HaRav massacre got his weapon in order to find out whether this gun was given to the PA by Israel as part of the Oslo “peace process.”

Here is the video of Yitzchak Dadon being interviewed by the Israeli media after the attack. Notice that the journalist tries to cut him off as soon as he starts criticizing Olmert and Peres. The interview is in Hebrew, for those who understand it.
