The Super Bowl Commute: A Lesson Learned

s
As the morning of the Super Bowl has arrived, two distinct groups have made themselves known. No, I am not talking about the Giants and the Patriots. These two colossal titans are “The Sports Nuts vs. The Commercial Nuts.” While sports fans all over the world are getting ready to watch a romping on the part of the Sports Nuts, I ask that we take a careful look at the underdog first. The commercials are supposed to be an intermittent break from the bone jarring hits that will be delivered all over the field in Glendale, Arizona this evening. When trying to make the Super Bowl relate to our daily lives, it is the small things in life that should be appreciated.

The commercials that play throughout the game add a breather and calm the intensity while allowing everyone to smile, enjoy the company of friends, and laugh for a moment at the simplest of advertisements. Over the years, the focus of the Super Bowl has always been the importance of the game. However, the last decade has brought out the better side of people. Instead of finding the biggest television in the neighborhood to watch human beings crush each other, we have now started to appreciate the underdog known as the commercials and the opportunity to spend time laughing and cheering with the people that we may often rush by during the work week.

The actual game itself can be likened to the daily struggles in life. Each day we wake up early and prepare to take on the world. As we get into the car to go to work, we think about all of the things that are waiting for us at our office, the bills to be paid, or the fight that we just had with a spouse or close friend. All of these stressful thoughts only add to our anger and frustration as commuters. This car ride is not actually our work (Super Bowl), but a brief (or sometimes long) commercial to the “big game” of our daily lives. Getting into the car to go to work should be viewed as a breather which allows us time to think of all of the wonderful things that we have in our lives. No matter how many hectic or difficult things that take place from day to day, there are always silver linings or positive things that we can reflect on and be thankful for. So tonight during the Super Bowl commercials, think about the commercial breaks we have in our daily lives. When you are driving to and from work this week, put a smile on your face because the commercials in the Super Bowl have helped you to realize that you have much to smile about and a lot to be thankful for.
